Weddings Going Green

This trend is not suprising. Seems like “green” and “limits to growth” is a very lucrative industry.

Jessica Stasinos of Peabody has been planning weddings for five years. Her work involves spending an average of 100 hours with brides and grooms making sure all their nuptial needs are met.

This summer, she’s facing a new challenge. Stasinos, who runs the Peabody event coordinator The Social Butterfly, is planning a vegan wedding. Every last detail of this wedding must be all-natural.

“No animal products can be used, which I think is kind of neat,” she says. “It’s been interesting. It’s kind of tough to find vegan (products).”

Couples are taking their environmental concerns to the altar by planning “green” and vegan weddings. They choose Earth-friendly options for some or all aspects of their ceremony, reception and even the honeymoon. It’s a trend that started in California, says Stasinos, and has moved east.

Weddings at Sea – Get Married on a Cruise Ship

Weddings on a cruise ship are more popular than ever. Read on…

Today many lines offer a host of hassle-free wedding, vow renewal, honeymoon and anniversary packages to spur couples to sea.

According to Steve Shaiken, Royal Caribbean’s vice president, Onboard Revenue Operations, “More than 15 percent of Americans are choosing a destination wedding instead of a traditional land-based ceremony.”

A wedding coordinator at RCI told us that land-based weddings cost about $26,000 on average — a whopping expense compared to a wedding at sea, which can run from about $1,000 to $6,000, depending on the cruise line, the amenities selected, and whether the wedding is held aboard the vessel, in a port facility or on a private island.

St Johns, USVI – Hot New Place for Destination Weddings

St. John Continues to Grow in Popularity as Wedding Destination  – and what a beautiful place to get married!

“You’ll begin to notice more and more and more people getting involved with the wedding industry,” she said. “We now have two different limousine companies to select from, when we never had limos before. People are even setting up their villas as boutique hotels to be able to take care of wedding parties.”

Another trend in the destination wedding business is an expanded season, explained Porter.

“July is going to be just as busy as June,” she said. “The season is extending — it’s usually April, May and June, but this month I have just as many weddings as I did in June. It really empowers every aspect of St. John’s economy — the car rentals, restaurants, boutiques, villas and hotels.”
