Choosing Your Wedding Flowers

Flowers are a wonderful way to add a decorative touch to your wedding as well as giving the occasion individuality and symbolism in the varieties you choose.

The guests at my own wedding had no idea that the seemingly cool, calm and collected bride standing at the altar had just an hour before the ceremony been frantically cobbling together a bouquet from the mass of peonies that were adorning the tables

Have Bridal Shoes Made Just For You

EVEN for the most dedicated shopper, finding just the right pair of shoes can be elusive. A store-to-store search — whether on the Web or at the mall — can take hours. Shoppers may think they’ve found the perfect pair, only to be stymied by a problem with fit, style or color.

It’s not that retailers don’t try, as the huge shoe sections in department stores. Customization is more common with athletic shoes, but fashion footwear is beginning to catch up.

Making Weddings More Affordable

Planning a wedding can get pretty expensive, especially when you have to pay for it yourselves, but no one ever talks about how expensive weddings can be for your guests. Unfortunately, you will get to the age where all of your relatives and friends start getting married at the same time and it won’t be uncommon to attend at least four or five weddings each spring and summer season. When you estimate all the money spent on clothes, travel, lodging, and gifts for these events, it can get costly for wedding guests. There are few ways that you, the bride and groom, can make it a little more affordable for everyone involved.

Bridesmaid Dress Shopping

A professed fashionista, I’m obsessed with clothes: from the extravagant and oft impossible looks of the runway to the simple act of creating a garment – which of course has led to an unabashed adoration of Project Runway – I love it all. The thing is, I’m not actually a clotheshorse. It’s more of a fascination with color, texture and the concept of fashion as a form of pop culture. Thus it was with happy contentment that I slept in on Black Friday, bypassing the ample sales of the big shopping holiday. Let’s face it: cashmere, smashmere – 20 percent off is not worth a 4 a.m. wake up call and a swath of scrambling, misbehaved savers.

So imagine my chagrin when my close friend suggested shopping at the mall the next (and assuredly busy) day. Actually, I should clarify. This was not just shopping, but bridesmaid dress shopping. As I began to whine about parking and long lines, I caught myself. I had broken the cardinal sin of being a bridesmaid: Do what the bride wants. After all, this was an order, not a suggestion.

I reminded myself that I should be particularly grateful, as she had opted away from bridal stores, replete with their starchy taffeta and candy colors, and decided to go with gowns from a “normal” store.

Honeymoon Bridal Registries

Betrothed couples with established households often have most items brides and grooms typically register for: towels, dishes, picture frames and practical but unromantic kitchen appliances. Asking for cash seems gauche, however, so what are two well-equipped lovebirds to do? Increasingly, affianced pairs are putting their gift registries online. This offers wedding guests the opportunity to fund portions of the honeymoon, everything from a couples massage to a romantic picnic on the beach to horseback rides, ski passes or part of an airline tickethttp://www.columbian.com/lifeHome/lifeHomeNews/2007/12/12022007_Honeymoon-helpers.cfm

Square Cut Diamonds Popular With Modern Brides

Say the words engagement ring and the first thing that often comes to mind is the classic ring, the brilliant-cut round solitaire, most often set in a white gold mount on a yellow gold band. But the times are changing and other cuts are becoming the new trend. Bloomberg has a report on diamond cut trends for engagement rings. While the round is still the most popular shape, research from the Diamond Information Center reports that square cuts are now a full 30 percent of the market up from just nine percent in 1999.

Fall Is The New Spring For Some

Caitlyn Ferrell Mueller has always loved autumn in West Virginia, so when she began to plan one of her life’s most important events, she thought autumn was the perfect time.

Her Oct. 6 wedding at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral to Tim Mueller turned out to be an unseasonably warm day — it hit 93 degrees — but the day still had a fall feel to it, with leaves just starting to change.
