Wedding Rings Sales Strong

Jewellery retailers enjoyed increased sales in May with consumers hitting the high street to spend ahead of the coming Budget announcement on June 22.

Accountancy and business advisory company BDO LLP reported that overall high street sales rose for the fourth consecutive month in May, increasing 5.4% like-for-like against the same period last year. Its High Street Sales Tracker found that fashion sales, including jewellery, had risen by 5.3% against the same period last year.

Hydrangeas Are Perfect Wedding Flower Centerpiece

Tara Guerard of Soiree frequently uses hydrangeas as centerpieces for weddings, she says. The wedding designer also has used hydrangea in wreaths, hanging flower centerpieces, flower baskets and as tiebacks for curtains.

“June is our favorite time of the year to use local hydrangeas,” Guerard says. “They have white, pink blue, lavender and purple, and longleaf, which are mainly like a green and cream. I think they go with anything from roses to Queen Anne’s lace. All on their own, they make a fabulous statement.”

When cut, hydrangeas should not be placed in direct sun and should be placed in water, the wedding planner says. How long they last after being cut depends on their age. Sometimes older ones can be a bit stronger.

Destination Weddings on the Rise

“It’s most popular with young couples in their 20s and 30′s who want to make a big vacation with family and friends. It’s also very popular with repeat marriages.”

He said Mexico, Hawaii, Florida and the Caribbean remain the most popular destinations, although recently more clients are requesting Europe or South America.
